Fifteen Indians lost their lives after a tourist boat capsized in Vietnam. The vessel, carrying 36 people including 32 Indian tourists, overturned about 400 meters into the sea while traveling from Hòn Mê island to Phú Quốc's An Thới port. The tourists were employees and channel partners of Lava International Limited on an incentive trip. While 16 Indian survivors have been discharged from the hospital and are returning to India, one remains in critical condition.
Authorities have detained the boat's captain as investigations continue into the cause of the tragedy. Possible factors being probed include rough sea conditions, high-speed navigation, mechanical failure, and overloading. Reports suggest passengers may have been trapped inside the overturned boat despite wearing life jackets. The mortal remains of the deceased, who hail from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh, are being repatriated to India via Mumbai.
Lava International Limited officials are coordinating with the Indian Embassy and local authorities to assist the affected families.
