(P Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Monday launched a sharp attack on the NDA-led government, alleging that India’s education system has become a “dishonest extortion mechanism" and accusing the Centre of remaining silent over recurring paper leaks and corruption. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said the words “corrupt, unjust, biased, dishonest" were not his, but reflected how students today viewed the country’s education system.
“The truth is this, India’s education system has now become a dishonest extortion mechanism," he wrote. He alleged that a system meant to prepare children for their future was instead pushing students and their families into “debt, stress and despair." He also accused the NDA government and the Union Education Minister of failing to act despite repeated controversies.
“The Modi government and the Education Minister are watching all this. But they have chosen silence, turning their face away from accountability. And in the media? Just a long silence," Rahul Gandhi said. Calling for a “Revolution in education," the Congress MP urged students to join the party’s ‘Chhatron Ki Goonj’ campaign and invited them to participate in its event in Dehradun on July 17. “Enough is enough now, now is the time for a Revolution in education. 17 July, Dehradun, Come with me, let’s amplify the ‘Echo of Students’ even further," Gandhi said while sharing a registration link for the campaign. The Congress MP’s remarks come amid continuing political scrutiny over alleged irregularities in national-level entrance examinations. The Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts several competitive exams including NEET UG and UGC-NET, has faced repeated allegations over paper leaks and exam integrity. Most recently, the Education Ministry ordered a probe into allegations of a leak in the UGC-NET June 2026 examination after complaints surfaced that the Sociology paper had been circulated before the test.
