According to Iran’s state-run IRNA news agency, Iranian drone operations against US military facilities in the region were continuing, with Tehran claiming that an American drone fleet stationed in Bahrain had been destroyed.
The claim could not be independently verified. Earlier, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed responsibility for strikes on Kuwait’s Ali Salem and Ahmad Al-Jaber bases. The reported attacks came hours after the US military announced a new wave of strikes against Iranian military infrastructure. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces had struck “dozens of targets at multiple locations with precision munitions" to weaken Iran’s ability to carry out attacks on international shipping moving through the Strait of Hormuz. CENTCOM added that the operation involved fighter aircraft, naval assets, one-way attack aerial drones and one-way attack sea drones, marking the first known use of the latter capability in such an operation. A US military spokesperson said the strikes followed an alleged attack by Iran’s IRGC on a commercial vessel attempting to transit the strategic waterway. The latest exchange marks a sharp escalation in the standoff over the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy corridors. The narrow passage links the Persian Gulf to global markets and has long been a focal point of tensions between Washington and Tehran. Iran has accused the United States of undermining diplomatic efforts through its latest military actions. Iranian authorities said at least one person was killed and four others were wounded in a US strike on an agricultural water pumping station in Mahshahr.
