(REUTERS) Aleema Khan, the sister of jailed former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, has rejected calls for a one-day protest on August 5, saying the agitation must continue until the government allows him proper medical treatment and ends his solitary confinement. “Ensure that the call for protest will not be just for one day. Now we will increase the pressure so much that they will not only provide treatment to Imran Khan but also end his solitary confinement," Aleema Khan said. Calling for a sustained street movement, she said the time had come for supporters of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder to step out and continue protesting instead of returning home after a symbolic demonstration. “The time has come that now when we step out, we won’t return home.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa To Take The Lead Aleema Khan said Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would lead the movement, with Punjab extending full support immediately afterwards. “Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will take the lead, and Punjab will give full support right after," she said. She claimed Imran Khan had, a year ago, called for the PTI organisation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be strengthened and had asked Sohail Afridi to launch a street movement. “The time has come. Move the movement forward, strengthen the organisation, and all workers should increase pressure on their MNAs and MPAs," Aleema Khan said. She also accused elected representatives of being reluctant to mobilise supporters because they feared people would not join them. “MNAs and MPs are afraid that if we come out, no one will come with us. Agencies are spreading rumours that there is grouping. We deny this. There is no grouping. All of you prepare to leave," she said. Imran Khan In Solitary Confinement For Eight Months Aleema Khan claimed that the former prime minister had been kept in solitary confinement for the past eight months because the authorities feared his political influence.
“Imran Khan has been kept in solitary confinement for eight months. Imran Khan is in solitary confinement because they fear Imran Khan. They fear Imran Khan because he is the voice of the people," she said. She called upon PTI supporters to strengthen their agitation against what she described as injustice and oppression. “For Pakistan and for Imran Khan, we will have to strengthen our struggle. We must stand against this injustice," she said. Quoting Imran Khan, Aleema Khan added, “Imran Khan has said that struggle is worship — standing against this oppression." Movement To Pressurise The Government Aleema Khan also raised concerns about Imran Khan’s health, particularly a reported clot in his eye, and said the movement was aimed at pressuring the government to provide him medical treatment. “Understand our pain. We are concerned about Imran Khan’s eye. Why has a clot formed in his eye?" she said. “The purpose of the movement is to put pressure on this government so that he can get treatment," she added. Aleema Khan also criticised reports of negotiations, questioning what PTI leaders were seeking to achieve through talks. “When we hear that talks are underway, these people are begging. What are you negotiating about?" she said.
