‘Narayana on Wheels,’ an initiative launched by the Narayana group of medical institutions, has brought corporate treatment within reach of poor patients in the Nellore constituency. Developed as a state-of-the-art mobile clinic with a financial outlay of ₹3 crore, ‘Narayana on Wheels’ is equipped with all the necessary medical equipment and moves to identified destinations on time, accompanied by medical specialists who diagnose patients and offer treatment on the spot.
A medical camp organised on July 11-12, 2026, in the city’s 49th division included ‘Narayana Netra Jyoti,’ focusing on eye care, and ‘Narayana Dantha Suraksha,’ specializing in dental issues. Minister of Municipal Administration and Urban Development Ponguru Narayana, who also heads the Narayana Medical Institutions, launched the initiative of free medical camps in all the divisions of the Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) that fall under his Nellore City constituency.
It was during a social security pension distribution programme last year that an elderly woman in Girijan Colony, which falls under the city’s 53rd division, met Mr. Narayana and sought help for her vision impairment. Responding to her condition, the Minister ordered the conduct of specialised medical camps every week, and the first camp was formally launched in 2025.
The idea was to make otherwise expensive treatment accessible to poor and underserved patients. The camp has so far covered nearly 15,000 patients, with 9,693 receiving eye care and 6,400 receiving dental care.
