Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party claim they have been placed under house arrest ahead of the July 13 observance in Jammu and Kashmir. Prior to the abrogation of Article 370, July 13 was officially observed to mark the deaths of protesters in 1931. The date has since been removed from the official holiday list, and authorities restrict visits to the graveyard.
While valley-centric political parties continue to observe the date, Kashmiri Pandit organisations mark it as a black day, citing the targeting and looting of their community properties by rioters on the same day in 1931. The political leaders shared a video on social media to announce their detention.
