(AFP photo) As tensions between the United States and Iran intensify once again, several world leaders could be targeted after the Islamic Republic hinted at a revenge plot over the killing of its former Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, in a joint US-Israeli strike in late February.
The Hamshahri newspaper, known for its hardline and provocative stance, has published the names and photographs of several foreign leaders whom it said should be targeted as part of Iran’s revenge plan. Mojtaba Khamenei Vows Revenge The slain Iranian leader’s son and his successor, Mojtaba Khamenei, has vowed revenge for the February 28 killing of his father. “Vengeance is the will of our nation and must inevitably be carried out," Mojtaba said on Saturday in his first message since Khamenei’s funeral. “These criminals, whose names appear on a list, will take to their graves the wish of a peaceful death in their beds," he added. The newspaper, published by authorities in Tehran, released an infographic online late Saturday featuring photos of 13 foreign leaders alongside Mojtaba’s statement.
In his message, the Supreme Leader said Iran had drawn up a list of people to be targeted, but he did not reveal any names, nor was there any indication that the newspaper’s list had received official backing. The infographic features several world leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, among others. However, the graphic did not appear in the newspaper’s print edition published on Sunday.
