Health Minister K. Muraleedharan has said that the efforts to bring about systemic improvement in the health system will continue and that he was not one to abandon things midway. Releasing a report on the systematic work that he had taken up in the last 50 days in the Health department, at a function held here on Saturday, Mr. Muraleedharan said he would continue to pursue the good work and that no one need to think that he would give up after a while.
The Minister said that the work that still needed to be taken up was at least 10 times more. Apart from the Budgetary allocation, the government would use CSR funds for infrastructural development in public hospitals, he said. Muraleedharan said the government’s decision to probe the procurements made by the Health department in the last 10 years was not a political one and that the sole intention of such an exercise was to ensure that public money was not wasted.
He said that all vacancies in the department would be reported promptly to the Public Service Commission (PSC) and no temporary appointments would be encouraged while PSC rank lists are in place. The government had identified more sites for establishing AIIMS and submitted the list to the Centre so that Kerala did not lose AIIMS over regional interests, the Minister said. The government would post specialist doctors only in health facilities where specialty departments are available. The KSEB’s land in Mananthavady would be utilised for the development of Wayanad Medical College Hospital.
He added that a master plan would be prepared for resolving the issues of infrastructural deficiencies in Kollam Medical College Hospital. Principal Secretary (Health) Sharmila Mary Joseph presided over the programme. State Mission Director for the Health Mission Anu S. Nair, Director of Medical Education K.V. Vishwanathan, and Director of Health Services V. Meenakshy were among those present.
