A car rammed into multiple vehicles in Ongole city on Sunday (July 12, 2026), killing a police constable on the spot. Armed Reserve Constable Surabhi Mariyadasu (35), who was proceeding on a bicycle to the District Police Office to participate in the ‘Sunday with Cycle’ programme, was rammed from behind by the speeding car early in the day.
“The impact was so heavy that Mariyadasu died on the spot,” Superintendent of Police V. Harshavardhan Raju said. He is survived by his wife S. Bharathi, a son and a daughter, aged ten and eight years respectively. The family members reached the mortuary on being informed.
The car was allegedly being driven by Megha (25), who is pursuing a postgraduate course in gynaecology. She was proceeding with her friends, who were in Ongole for the weekend to participate in an ongoing medical conference. Megha, who was questioned by the police about the incident, is learnt to be in a state of shock.
