Vietnam's Prime Minister has ordered an investigation into the speedboat tragedy that killed 15 Indian tourists near an island in southern Vietnam. The boat, carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members, capsized while travelling from Ho Mai Island to Thorn Port, around 400 metres from the shore. Rescue teams saved 21 people, with two reported to be in critical condition.
The victims include 10 people from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the tragedy and said the Indian Embassy is providing all possible assistance while remaining in touch with the Vietnamese government. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar also conveyed his condolences. The governments of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala are coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Indian Embassy and Vietnamese authorities to assist the injured and bring the victims home.
