At least 15 Indian tourists died after a boat carrying 36 people capsized off Vietnam's Phu Quoc island. The vessel, travelling from Hòn Mê route island to An Thoi port, overturned 400 metres into the sea amid rough weather and large waves. The boat carried 32 Indian tourists, three crew members, and one attendant. The deceased include ten passengers from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh, and two from Kerala.
The Indian embassy in Vietnam established emergency response centres in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi to assist affected families. The central government and state authorities are coordinating with the embassy to provide necessary assistance. Investigators are examining possible causes for the tragedy, including rough sea conditions, high-speed navigation, mechanical failure, overloading, and inadequate safety equipment. Authorities are also probing whether weather warnings were ignored, if the boat exceeded its permissible capacity, and whether passengers were wearing life jackets during the incident.
