US Central Command launched a third round of strikes against Iran, hitting approximately 140 military targets, including missile sites and naval facilities. The strikes were in response to Iranian forces attacking a Cyprus-flagged commercial tanker, the Galaxy, in the Strait of Hormuz. Following the escalation, Iran declared the international maritime corridor closed until further notice, citing vessels using unapproved routes near the Omani coast.
Despite the United States maintaining that the strait remains open, Iran fired warning shots at another merchant ship and retaliated by targeting US military bases across the Gulf region, including in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and the UAE. Both nations are currently engaged in limited-scale operations, avoiding a formal declaration of a full-fledged war. The conflict remains concentrated around the Strait of Hormuz, thrusting the global oil shipping route into crisis.
