Iran has confirmed firing a warning shot at the Galaxy vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, stating the ship was sailing on an unapproved route near the Omani coast. Following the incident, Iran announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz until further notice and warned the United States against meddling in the region. In response to the vessel attack, the US launched a third round of punitive strikes, targeting several cities in Iran.
The closure of the shipping route follows previous blockades that impacted global crude oil prices. Iran maintains that ships must follow specific routes approved by its independent authority for the strait.
