The Indian Prime Minister concluded a two-day official visit to New Zealand, marking the first such visit by an Indian leader in forty years. Upon arriving in Auckland, the Indian Prime Minister received a grand welcome that included a traditional haka dance performance. During the visit, the Indian and New Zealand Prime Ministers held a bilateral meeting to strengthen diplomatic relations. The two nations signed several memorandums of understanding, establishing a strategic partnership and enhancing cooperation in the defence and maritime sectors.
A major highlight was the agreement to double bilateral trade, targeting seven billion New Zealand dollars by 2030. The Indian Prime Minister also addressed the Indian diaspora, highlighting economic growth, rapid digital adoption, and infrastructure development in India. The New Zealand Prime Minister praised these achievements, noting the lifting of millions out of poverty, the expansion of airports and highways, and the spacecraft landing on the south pole of the Moon.
