Four days after the deadly landslide at the Wayanad tunnel project, rescue teams continue their search for the last missing worker. Seven bodies have been recovered from the site so far. The Kerala government has formed a three-member expert committee to oversee debris removal and draw up an action plan for the Public Works Department.
The Kerala High Court has stepped in to monitor the response, ordering the immediate dispersal of ex gratia, free treatment for the injured, and prompt handover of victims' bodies. During the hearing, the state government blamed the contractor, stating that repeated safety instructions regarding the removal of excavated soil and construction debris were ignored before the disaster struck.
