In a bid to strengthen community policing and enhance crime prevention, police officers from across Mysuru district were sensitised on the effective implementation of the beat system during a workshop held here on Saturday. The beat system has been introduced to establish closer contact with residents, improve intelligence gathering, detect crimes and ensure regular patrolling by personnel assigned to each beat within the jurisdiction of every police station.
Inaugurating the workshop, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjuna Baladandi outlined the roles and responsibilities of police personnel in ensuring the successful implementation of the beat system. The SP explained how the beat system has evolved over the years, adapting to changing policing requirements while incorporating necessary reforms to make it more effective and citizen-friendly.
During an interactive session, Mr. Baladandi sought feedback from the participating officers on the functioning of the beat system in their respective jurisdictions. He also invited suggestions to further strengthen the initiative and improve coordination between the police and
the public. At the workshop, it was informed that the beat system has undergone significant changes over the past three decades in tune with evolving policing needs, with the primary objective of ensuring public safety, and maintaining law and order.
