(File) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay expressed condolences to the victims of the Vietnam boat tragedy and instructed officials to coordinate with the Centre to provide all assistance to people from the state who were affected by the incident. “I am deeply saddened and distressed to learn of the boat accident that occurred this morning near Hon May Rut Ngoai Island in the An Thoi sea area of Vietnam, in which Indian tourists, including those from Tamil Nadu and other states, lost their lives while on a sightseeing trip," read a statement from Vijay’s office. Vijay said he had directed officials to obtain details of the victims from Tamil Nadu and coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and senior officials of the Indian Embassy in Vietnam to carry out rescue and relief operations and ensure that all necessary assistance is provided to those affected.
“I have directed that necessary steps be taken through the Indian Embassy to bring the mortal remains of those who lost their lives back to Tamil Nadu at the earliest," he added. At least 15 Indian tourists were killed in a tragic accident after a speedboat overturned near Vietnam’s popular Phu Quoc Island, prompting extensive rescue operations and emergency measures to assist affected families. The vessel, carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members, overturned while returning to An Thoi Port from a sightseeing trip near the popular island destination in the Gulf of Thailand. The Indian Embassy in Vietnam released the names of all 15 Indian nationals who were killed in the tragic accident. Among them, 10 tourists were from Tamil Nadu, three from Andhra Pradesh and two from Kerala. It is with profound grief that we share the list of 15 Indian nationals who have lost their lives in the tragic boat accident near Phuc Quoc Island today. He also directed officials to take steps to bring the survivors back to the state at the earliest. After receiving information about the capsized boat near Hon May Rut Ngoai Island, the Vietnam Coast Guard Region 4 Command immediately dispatched a coast guard vessel, which was already operating at sea, along with two high-speed rescue boats, carrying a total of 40 officers and personnel to the accident site. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Cabinet ministers mourned the loss of lives and assured that the government will take all steps to assist the family members of those affected. The Indian Embassy in Hanoi said it is closely coordinating with Vietnamese authorities and extending all possible assistance to the affected families.
