Intelligence developed by Telangana Police’s Elite Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) Force has led to the seizure of 385 kg of ganja near the Chhattisgarh-Maharashtra border in a joint operation with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), officials said on Saturday. Police said the seven-day surveillance operation tracked the consignment from Deoghati near Jeypore in Odisha to Baghnadi Gaon on the Kolkata-Mumbai highway before it was intercepted, preventing the narcotics from being transported into Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
One person, identified as Mahadhev Bheel (23) of Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district, was arrested in connection with the case. The latest operation follows a series of intelligence-led anti-narcotics actions by the EAGLE Force. According to the Telangana Police, the specialised unit has
seized nearly 7,000 kg of ganja over the past year and has played a key role in several major inter-State operations, helping disrupt organised drug trafficking networks and preventing the State from being used as a transit corridor for narcotics. Police
said intelligence shared by the EAGLE Force enabled the NCB in Ranchi to seize 500 kg of ganja in November 2025, while another joint operation with Koraput Sadar Police in Odisha in June 2026 resulted in the seizure of an additional 500 kg.
