According to court documents, Kapoor travelled from Mumbai to New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 21, 2024, with a phone containing digital videos and computer images containing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct, the department said in a press release.
On April 11, 2024, Kapoor also downloaded a video depicting the sexual abuse of a child from an Internet Protocol address at his residence in New Orleans. He was arrested by Homeland Security special agents and officers of the New Orleans Police Department on December 20 that year. 600 Images Of Sexual Abuse Of Minors Kapoor later confessed that he had seen and received child pornography using WhatsApp. He also admitted to possessing more than 600 images depicting the sexual abuse of minors. Additionally, he admitted that these items contained sadistic or masochistic conduct and also depicted sexual abuse of infants and toddlers. A US district judge sentenced him to 121 months in prison, five years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $200 (Rs 19,000).
He was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $3,000 (Rs 28,600) to a victim. Kapoor was also required to register under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act upon release from prison. The case was investigated by the United States Department of Homeland Security, the US Customs and Border Protection and the New Orleans Police Department.
