(AFP) Smartphone maker Lava International on Saturday condoled the deaths of Indian tourists in a boat mishap near Vietnam’s Phu Quoc Island, saying it was in touch with the Indian Embassy and would extend support to those affected and their families. This came after a speedboat carrying 32 Indian tourists and four crew members capsized 400 metres from shore while travelling from Hon May Rut Island.
Local authorities rescued 21 people from the overturned boat, while 13 Indian tourists – two women and 13 men – were confirmed dead. Lava Mobiles said the incident involved some of its channel partners and team members. “We are in constant touch with the Embassy of India in Vietnam and the local authorities to gather information about the safety and well-being of our people. Our immediate priority is to extend all possible support to those affected and their families. Our teams in both India and Vietnam are in regular contact with the families and are providing all possible assistance," it said on X.
