4,000 Troops, 7 Rangers Wings: Asim Munir’s Major Crackdown Plan For PoK Revealed | Exclusive Reported By, Last Updated: July 11, 2026, 11:36 IST A confidential order accessed by CNN-News18 shows Pakistan is preparing for the July 15 protests in PoK with an unprecedented security build-up, citing fears of escalating unrest. (IMAGE: AFP) Pakistan is preparing for a major security deployment in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) ahead of protests and long marches planned for July 15, with the local administration seeking thousands of additional federal personnel to contain the unrest. A confidential order accessed by CNN-News18 shows that the so-called Azad Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has requested the immediate deployment of 4,000 Federal Constabulary personnel and seven wings of Pakistan Rangers. The communication, dated July 8 and marked “Most Immediate" and “Secret", was sent to the secretary of Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior in Islamabad.
The order reflects growing concern within the Pakistan-backed administration over the possibility of fresh large-scale protests in PoK, where the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) has been leading an agitation against the authorities. The administration has accused the committee of organising prolonged marches, protests and sit-ins, and claimed that the agitation has led to a “volatile security crisis" across the region. Additional Forces Sought For PoK According to the order, the requested forces would be deployed in addition to the security personnel already stationed in PoK. The document says the reinforcements are needed to “neutralise" the alleged threat, maintain the authority of the administration and support an overstretched security apparatus. It further asks that 50 per cent of the incoming personnel be equipped with arms and ammunition, while the remaining half be provided with anti-riot gear. Any shortage of riot-control equipment, the order says, should be addressed by drawing the required supplies from Pakistan’s central stocks before the forces are deployed.
Authorities Blame JAAC For Unrest The PoK administration has blamed the Joint Awami Action Committee for continuing what it described as disruptive sit-ins in Poonch and Rawalakot and attempting to mobilise rallies in neighbouring districts. It also alleged that armed individuals associated with the proscribed group were trying to disrupt peace in the Muzaffarabad and Mirpur divisions. The order claims that security personnel and civilians have been targeted and that trucks carrying essential food supplies to PoK have been set on fire. According to the administration, four security personnel have been killed and 174 others seriously injured during the unrest. CNN-News18 could not independently verify these claims. Crackdown Fears Ahead Of July 15 The request for reinforcements comes ahead of protests and long marches expected on July 15, raising fears of a fresh crackdown by Pakistani authorities in the region. The Joint Awami Action Committee has emerged as a major platform for public mobilisation in PoK and has accused the authorities of failing to address local demands and using force against protesters.
