Read Full Story The victim, Dinesh Chandra Agrawal, lived alone in Khadana Mohalla in Alwar city. According to police, the accused knew that he lived by himself and dealt in old currency notes and coins, prompting them to target his house for the robbery.
Superintendent of Police Sudhir Chaudhary said the investigation revealed that the alleged mastermind, Karan, had been unable to arrange money to pay the EMI on his house loan. Facing financial difficulties, he allegedly approached his friends for help, following which the group planned the robbery. Police said five accused entered the elderly man's house through the rear late at night while he was asleep. Their intention was allegedly to commit robbery. However, Agrawal woke up during the theft, after which the accused tied his hands and legs and gagged him by covering his mouth with cloth. He died of suffocation before the accused fled with cash and coins. The case came to light after the victim's son, Vikas Kumar Agrawal, lodged a complaint and told police that his father lived alone in the family's old house and visited their residence every day for dinner.
When he did not arrive on Thursday night, family members tried calling him but could not establish contact. They then went to his house and found the main door locked from inside. After opening it with a spare key, they found Dinesh Chandra Agrawal lying inside with his hands, legs and mouth tied with cloth. On removing the cloth, they realised he had died. Police said that multiple teams continuously analysed CCTV footage and technical evidence for nearly 12 hours, leading to the identification and detention of two accused. The detained accused have been identified as Karan (20) and Teju alias Tejpal (20). Officials said that each accused is believed to have received around Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 from the robbery.
They also allegedly spent coins worth about Rs 1,800 to Rs 2,000 in the local market. Police are now tracing where the coins were circulated and to whom they were handed over. SP Chaudhary said some of the accused belonged to the same locality as the victim and had known him for a long time, even addressing him as 'uncle'. Police are verifying their criminal antecedents, while legal action will also be initiated against the two juveniles involved in the crime. Ends (With inputs from Himanshu Sharma.)
