The aviation regulator has also directed the airline to revise its training programme by incorporating more practical exercises and operational scenarios. According to the DGCA, the action follows a special audit of IndiGo’s engineering stores facility in Delhi, where several regulatory non-compliances under the Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rules, 2026, were found in the carriage of company material (COMAT) classified as dangerous goods on its own aircraft.
The warning letter is linked to a cargo spillage that was detected on the ground after the arrival of a flight in January 2026. The subsequent audit found deviations from the airline’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) and certain provisions of the Aircraft (Carriage of Dangerous Goods) Rules, 2026, IndiGo said in a regulatory filing on Friday. Based on the audit findings, the DGCA has instructed IndiGo to conduct recurrent training for all personnel involved in COMAT dangerous goods handling at Delhi airport. The airline has also been asked to strengthen its Continuous Competency Assessment (CCA) system and submit an action taken report within 30 days, the regulator said in a statement.
In its regulatory filing, InterGlobe Aviation, the parent company of IndiGo, said the communication from the DGCA was received on July 8. It added that, as directed by the regulator, the company is required to submit an action taken report detailing the corrective measures taken. The airline said there is “no significant impact on its financials, operations, or other activities." Explaining the delay in disclosure, the company said, “The delay in disclosure was unintentional and was caused due to a delay in internal communication of details pertaining to receipt of the aforementioned letter."
