(Picture Credit: Screengrab) 18-year-old Lamine Yamal was arguably the best player for Spain in their FIFA World Cup 2026 quarterfinal against Belgium on Friday. Even though the Barcelona forward failed to score a goal for the 2010 FIFA World Cup winners in their third knockout match of this year’s tournament, he made life difficult for the Belgian defenders throughout the match. For his superb display in Spain’s first FIFA World Cup quarterfinal in 16 years, Yamal won the Player of the Match award, but after the end of the match, his younger brother Keyne is making more headlines than him around the world.
Keyne is Yamal’s half-brother, and the three-year-old was present in the stands to watch the Spain-Belgium match. He has gone viral on the internet for his celebration after Spain’s second goal in the quarterfinal. In several videos going viral on the internet, Keyne can be seen failing to control his emotions and making hilarious faces to aggressively celebrate Spain’s second goal. The 30-year-old Arsenal star came on as a substitute for Spain in the 86th minute of the match, and within two minutes, he scored for the 2024 European champions to help them take a 2-1 lead.
The goal by Merino proved to be decisive as it was the last goal of the match, and thanks to it, Spain managed to get the better of Belgium 2-1. In Spain’s Round of 16 match as well, Merino came off the bench against Portugal and scored the only goal of the match in the 90+1st minute. By scoring two winners for Spain in back-to-back knockout matches of FIFA World Cup 2026, Merino has entered his name in the history books. The 30-year-old is the first player in the world to score the winning goal in two different knockout-stage matches of the FIFA World Cup as a substitute. He is also the first player to score two match-winning goals for Spain in the FIFA World Cup from the 80th minute onwards.
