Iran Rebuilding Nuclear Sites? Satellite Images Show Fresh Activity At Key Facilities Published By, Last Updated: July 11, 2026, 01:20 IST Satellite images reviewed by CNN show signs of new activity at several nuclear and missile-related sites in Iran. Iranian state-affiliated Mehr News agency said that Shrapnel from US missiles fell on the only nuclear power plant in Iran. (Image source: AFP) As signs of easing tensions in West Asia emerged after the recent escalation, following US President Donald Trump’s announcement that Tehran had asked to continue negotiations, a new report has raised fresh questions over Iran’s nuclear activities. Satellite images reviewed by CNN show signs of new activity at several nuclear and missile-related sites in Iran, suggesting Tehran may be working to rebuild parts of its nuclear programme. The report comes after US President Donald Trump said on Friday that Washington had agreed to hold talks with Iran after Tehran sought to continue negotiations, while also warning that the recent ceasefire between the two sides was over.
The latest developments follow days of military exchanges between the US and Iran, with both sides carrying out attacks that raised fears of a return to a full-scale war. Satellite images from June 22 and July 7 showed repair and reconstruction work at parts of the facility damaged during US and Israeli strikes, according to CNN’s analysis with the Institute for Science and International Security. At Pickaxe Mountain, another suspected underground nuclear site, satellite images from June 21 showed vehicles moving in and out of tunnels.
Tensions continue despite talks Trump said Iran had asked to continue talks and that Washington had agreed, but he stressed that the ceasefire between the two countries was no longer in place. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has asked us to continue ‘talks.’ We have agreed to do so, but the United States has stated to them, in no uncertain terms, that the Cease Fire is OVER!" Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social. The US and Iran exchanged strikes this week, with Tehran launching attacks on US-linked targets in the Gulf region after American strikes on Iranian sites. The two sides had reached an interim deal last month aimed at ending the four-month war, with negotiations involving Qatar and Pakistan.
