A sixty-nine-year-old serial conman has been arrested in Chhattisgarh for allegedly defrauding more than three hundred five-star hotels across the country over the past thirty years. An investigation reveals that the accused targeted luxury accommodations to exact revenge for being mistreated by a hotel owner in the mid-nineties. Pretending to be a tourist guide, the accused would book rooms via telephone, enjoy lavish meals and drinks for a few days, and then flee without settling the bills, often stealing items like laptops.
The authorities apprehended the accused at a luxury hotel in Bhubaneswar within forty-eight hours of a theft reported at a hotel in Raipur. The investigation highlights that the accused operated without any bank accounts or credit cards, relying entirely on cash and verbal deception. Despite spending fifteen years in various prisons, including Tihar Jail, the accused continued the fraudulent activities. The police have recovered stolen property, and the accused has been sent to judicial remand as the legal process continues.
