(AFP file photo) King Charles III and Queen Camilla on Friday met Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and their two children for the first time in four years, British media reported. The private family meeting took place at Highgrove House, the King’s country residence in Gloucestershire. Harry, Meghan, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet travelled from an unspecified location in Europe for the reunion, according to the Press Association news agency. The meeting marks a significant moment in the relationship between the King and his younger son, which has been strained since Harry and Meghan stepped back from royal duties and moved to the United States in 2020.
Harry’s UK visit sparks speculation Prince Harry arrived in the UK earlier this week for charity events, but much of the attention focused on whether he would meet his father. There had been uncertainty over whether Meghan and their children would join him during the visit. The couple had not been in the UK together since 2022, when they attended Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral. The meeting was also the first time King Charles had seen his grandchildren, Archie and Lilibet, in person in more than four years. Buckingham Palace later confirmed that the King and Queen had hosted the family at Highgrove House, describing it as a “private family occasion". Family reunion amid tensions Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the Royal Family has faced several public disagreements since their decision to leave royal duties.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to California after stepping away from their roles as working members of the Royal Family. Their public comments about royal life have also added to tensions with the institution. Harry’s latest visit to Britain came after a legal setback in his long-running battle with British newspapers. A court recently ruled against his privacy claim involving the publisher of the Daily Mail.
