Mukherjee expressed concern that Patel's remarks were delivered to a group of students at a convocation. She shared a perspective from feminist and poet Alina, stating that 'motherhood over here in this context is being framed as an obligation, not a choice, which makes it a prison'.
Mukherjee argued that in India, a tiny minority of women can 'dream of the word autonomy' due to deep societal inequality.
