KHAMMAM Jagannadhapuram, a small village in the predominantly agrarian district of Khammam, wore a festive look on Friday as thousands of farmers from far and wide converged for the ‘Rythu Ashirvada Sabha’ addressed by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The Chief Minister released the final instalment of ₹1,009 crore under the Rythu Bharosa scheme to 1.44 lakh farmers for the kharif season, taking the total disbursal under the investment support scheme to ₹9,000 crore this season. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister outlined the Congress government’s farmer-centric initiatives aimed at increasing farmers’ income and making agriculture sustainable and profitable occupation.
He said the Rythu Bharosa assistance had been enhanced to ₹12,000 per acre, and the farm loan waiver programme had provided debt relief to thousands of farmers across the State. Reiterating that farmers’ welfare remained at the core of the government’s agenda, he said the Congress government had spent more than ₹1.67 lakh crore on a host of initiatives including Rythu Bharosa, crop bonus, waiver of farm loans, compensation for crop losses, free power for agriculture. Swipe at BRS Taking a swipe at the BRS, Mr. Reddy criticised its demand to refill the Medigadda barrage, arguing that doing so without first addressing the structural concerns could have serious consequences.
He said the sinking of the barrage had already caused significant damage and warned that refilling it could pose a threat to downstream areas including Bhadrachalam in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. Striking an emotional note, he said that “Palamuru” (his native district) was his political lifeline, while Khammam occupied a special place in his heart, drawing thunderous applause from the gathering. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, who represents the Madhira Assembly Constituency, presided over the meeting. Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar, Legislative Council Chairman Gutta Sukender Reddy, Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and Khammam MP R.
Raghuram Reddy were among those present.
