In an exclusive interview on India Today's To The Point, former Puducherry Lieutenant Governor and IPS officer Kiran Bedi responded to Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel's statement that women should become expert mothers before becoming IAS or IPS officers. Kiran Bedi criticized the remark, stating, "It's a very negative message, and it's regressive." She emphasized that individuals in positions of authority should be exceedingly careful about their public messaging, especially when addressing impressionable young women at academic convocations.
When asked about her own advice to young girls, Kiran Bedi urged them to find their own identity and become self-reliant. She stated, "My message would be do not get into domesticity till you are self-reliant." She further encouraged young women to focus on their growth and aim to become providers for themselves and their families, just as boys are taught to be providers.
