The Telangana Human Rights Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the food contamination incident in a Nagarkurnool school that affected 27 students on Thursday (July 9, 2026). Learning of the development from media outlets, the HRC called for a detailed report from the District Collector, Nagarkurnool, on the circumstances leading to the incident, the present health condition of the students, the inquiry findings, sample analyses of the food and water, and action taken against the persons and agencies responsible.
It further asked the district authority to explain the measures taken to prevent such recurrence. On Thursday, the 27 students at the Tribal Welfare Boys’ Gurukul in Mannanur, Amrabad mandal, reported vomiting, stomach pain, and breathlessness after having breakfast comprising khichdi and tomato chutney.
The students reportedly saw worms in the preparation. The victims were rushed to the Achampet area hospital, administered first aid, and kept under observation.
