Rapid Read News18 A fast-moving wildfire has ripped through southern Spain, leaving at least 12 people dead and 19 others missing in one of the country’s deadliest wildfires in more than two decades. The blaze erupted near Los Gallardos in Almeria province and spread rapidly through dry vegetation, driven by strong winds and scorching temperatures.

Four people found inside one vehicle are believed to be British, although formal identification is still underway.
More than 150 firefighters, backed by military emergency units, are battling the inferno as search-and-rescue teams continue looking for the missing. Around 1,000 people have been evacuated from nearby communities. Spain has witnessed an early and intense wildfire season this year, fuelled by repeated heatwaves and prolonged dry conditions. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez expressed condolences to the victims’ families as emergency crews continue efforts to contain the blaze.
