They could have said there is overcrowding and could have cancelled the meeting. They had all the rights to cancel the meeting," he said. He alleged that instead of intervening, the police allowed the event to continue. “They didn’t do anything that day. They went out of their way to help us. I should have known something is wrong." “Who do you think is responsible? Who put pressure [on the police]? Who gave the instructions that day?" he asked, while recalling that innocent children, women and others had lost their lives in the stampede. I came to politics only to serve people. I won’t run away from the people of the state," he said.
