Rapid Read The incident took place before a bench of Justice K.V. Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe. Dramatic scenes unfolded inside the Supreme Court on Friday after a petitioner appearing in person disrupted proceedings, hurled abuses at the Chief Justice and threw documents in the courtroom during the hearing. The incident took place before a bench of Justice KV Viswanathan and Justice Alok Aradhe when it was hearing a petition challenging the decision of the Allahabad High Court.
The courtroom atmosphere turned dramatic when the petitioner, who appeared in person, displayed an unusually aggressive stance in his submissions. “Mr judicial servant. I order you to order the registration of an FIR against the ACP … Lucknow," he said as quoted by Bar and Bench. Justice Viswanathan immediately questioned the litigant’s remarks, asking, “You are ordering me? You are ordering us?" The petitioner replied that everything was already on record. “That is all from my side. Everything is on record," he said. Moments later, he allegedly threw papers into the air and used abusive language against the Chief Justice of India, prompting security personnel to intervene and escort him out of the courtroom. Despite the disruption, the bench chose not to initiate contempt or any other action against the litigant.
“We do not propose to take any action against him. As far as the merits of the case are concerned, we have perused the records and find no good grounds to interfere with the impugned order. The Special Leave Petition is dismissed," Justice Viswanathan said. Following the hearing, senior advocate P.S. Patwalia remarked, “It is said that the job of a judge is not easy. On some days, it becomes more visible." Justice Viswanathan responded by expressing sympathy for the petitioner, saying, “He is very disturbed… it’s all frustration. We only have sympathies for him."
