(Image: X/@SpokespersonMoD) Days after taking charge, Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth has asked officers across the Indian Army to remain prepared for future military contingencies, directing formations to be ready for “Operation Sindoor 2.0" and “Operation Snow Leopard 2.0" while maintaining the highest standards of operational preparedness. According to a report in Times of India, in a letter dated July 6 and titled – Together Towards Excellence – General Seth laid out his vision and priorities for the force, placing combat readiness at the centre of the Army’s focus.
According to the report, the Army Chief instructed commanders to stay prepared for “Operation Sindoor 2.0" and “Operation Snow Leopard 2.0" and to conduct regular “spot reviews" to assess the operational readiness of their formations. The letter underlined that preparedness extends well beyond weapons and troop strength. General Seth said combat readiness must be viewed in a holistic manner, taking into account equipment capability, ammunition reserves, logistics, sustainment, human resources and other operational factors that collectively determine the Army’s effectiveness in a conflict. Calling operational readiness his foremost priority, the Army Chief also stressed the importance of continuous training, realistic assessments and maintaining a force capable of responding rapidly to any emerging security challenge. Operation Sindoor was India’s military response against terror infrastructure across the border following the terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. Operation Snow Leopard, meanwhile, is associated with the Army’s deployment and operational posture along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China following the eastern Ladakh military standoff.
The emphasis on sustained preparedness also comes as the Army remains deployed on both the western and northern fronts, with the security situation continuing to demand heightened vigilance. Just days after issuing the letter, General Seth visited the forward areas of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir on July 9 to review the operational situation along the Line of Control (LoC). During the visit, he assessed the prevailing security environment, reviewed the combat preparedness of troops and interacted with soldiers deployed in the sector. The Army Chief commended the troops for their professionalism, high morale and steadfast commitment under challenging conditions. He also emphasised the need for continued vigilance and operational preparedness in view of the dynamic security situation along the LoC.
