Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Bihar on Thursday (July 9, 2026), showed its strength in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Abhishek Kumar alias ‘Bunty’ during his nomination for the Bankipur Assembly bypoll when leaders from all alliance partners, including Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary called for the victory. The other leaders who attended his nomination includes Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) President Upendra Kushwaha, Janata Dal (United) Working Sanjay Kumar Jha, Ministers like Vijay Kumar Sinha and Dilip Kumar Jaiswal, and MPs Ravi Shankar Prasad and Sanjay Jaiswal were also present. A display of NDA’s unity and organisational strength was witnessed at a public meeting held at the Scout and Guide Ground ground in Patna following the nomination of Mr. Bunty. The seat had fallen vacant after BJP MLA Nitin Nabin was first nominated as party’s national president and later, elected to the Rajya Sabha.
Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) has fielded its founder Prashant Kishor whereas opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) has fielded Rekha Gupta. Bihar BJP State president Sanjay Saraogi, Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leader Sanjay Paswan and Hindustani Awam Morcha Secular (HAMS) State president Anil Kumar were also present. All leaders unanimously called for ensuring the victory of the BJP candidate by a massive margin. After filing his nomination, Mr. Bunty did a door-to-door campaign asserting that people of Bankipur have always stood by the politics of development, good governance, and national interest. Expressing confidence, he said the public will once again extend their full support to ensure a historic victory in this byelection. Bunty emphasised that people’s trust is his greatest strength and pledged to serve the public, foster development, and fulfill the people’s expectations with utmost dedication. He praised the local residents and party workers, saying that former MLA Nitin Nabin had set a high benchmark for development in the Bankipur Assembly constituency.
While addressing the gathering, Mr. Saraogi said the greatest virtue of the BJP is that it awards election tickets even to dedicated workers who operate at the booth level and Abhishek Kumar Sinha ‘Bunty’ is a living example of this. He added that Bankipur has been a BJP stronghold for generations because every household shares a deep and personal bond with the party. “BJP national president Nitin Nabin ji has always stood by the people of Bankipur in their joys and sorrows, and now Abhishek Kumar will carry forward that same journey of development,” Mr. Saraogi said. Attacking other rival candidates, Mr. Saraogi said leaders whom the people of Bankipur do not even recognise are in fray to contest the election where Mr. Bunty is connected to every ward and every family, whereas the local connection of the opposition candidates is itself questionable.
