The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged custodial death of Gade Sai Krishna has filed a petition in the Supreme Court, seeking permission to question the accused in full and asking the apex court to relax the conditions set by the Andhra Pradesh High Court. The Andhra Pradesh High Court had directed the investigating officers to question the accused Circle Inspector, S.S.V.V. Nagaraju of the Krishnalanka police station, and to videograph the process. Challenging the High Court’s order, the SIT approached the Supreme Court on Thursday (July 9, 2026). It was alleged that the Krishnalanka CI and his staff had illegally detained and tortured Sai Krishna, and killed him in custody in May.
They later reportedly cremated the body, the victim’s family members alleged. In another development, the Krishnalanka police filed a case against the suspended CI Nagaraju and the police station staff under the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and Section 108 of the BNSS (abetment of suicide) in the suspicious death of Perupogu Kranthi Kumar. The victim was a resident of Phakeergudem in Vijayawada. The Krishnalanka police had been summoning him frequently on the pretext of questioning, it was alleged. The victim was a resident of Phakeergudem in Vijayawada. The Krishnalanka police had been summoning him frequently on the pretext of questioning, it was alleged. A complaint lodged by Kranthi Kumar’s father, Venkateswara Rao, alleged that his son had ended his life on May 21, 2026, unable to bear the harassment and threats by CI Nagaraju and his aides. The police registered a case on Wednesday. “My son had recorded a selfie video naming the then Krishnalanka CI Nagaraju and some other staff of the police station. He had sent the video to his mother.
My son died due to the torture by the police,” Mr. Venkateswara Rao alleged. The case is under investigation. Those battling suicidal thoughts may dial 100 for help.
