SIR: Anomalies and unmapped voters could land 30% forms for scrutiny in Telangana

Close to a third of Telangana’s electorate might get under the lens of the Electoral Registration Officers (ERO) after the completion of the ongoing distribution and collection of the enumeration forms as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the State. Going by the trend so far, it appears that unmapped electors and those with some kind of anomaly together constitute 30% of the electors among the enumeration forms verified by the Booth Level Officers (BLO) across the State. 66.66 lakh EFs verified till July 9 As things stood on Thursday (July 9, 2026) evening, out of 66.66 lakh enumeration forms verified by the BLOs, over 20 lakh electors were found either unmapped or with anomalies in the information submitted.
Of these, over 18 lakh were anomalies, while close to 2 lakh were unmapped. Anomalies listed by ECI The unmapped voters are those, whose names or whose relatives’ names did not exist or could not be found in the rolls of the previous SIR conducted in 2002. Election Commissioner of India (ECI) has listed a total 11 anomalies, which include less than nine months gap between progeny, less than 15 years age gap between progeny and parent, less than 40 years age gap between elector and grandparent, different parent names between current roll and previous SIR, mapping with different relative type in current roll and previous SIR, and incorrect age difference between current and last SIR among several others.
In absolute numbers, unmapped voters have peaked in Ranga Reddy district at over 22,000, while the anomalies were the highest in Nizamabad district, at nearly 1.84 lakh. In percentage terms, Medchal Malkajgiri has the highest unmapped voters at 27% of the verified forms, and Hyderabad, the highest ratio of anomalies at 57%. Distribution of forms has 100% achievement in nine districts, while digitisation of the forms and verification is still a work in progress across the State. Notices After the completion of distribution and collection of forms, the electors who are unmapped and whose information has anomalies would receive notices from the EROs. July 31-September 28 is the notice phase when the EROs would issue notices and hear the claims and objections.
Those in receipt of the notices would be asked to come to the ERO at the appointed time with the relevant documents to prove their citizenship. A total 11 documents have been listed as proof of citizenship, which don’t include Aadhaar or Food Security Card which are owned by a large number of people.
