Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the updated Brezza on July 23, marking the first major refresh for the compact SUV since the second-generation model debuted in 2022. While the facelift is expected to bring cosmetic revisions and feature enhancements, the biggest talking point is likely to be the introduction of a new turbo-petrol engine. Read Full Story The refreshed Brezza is expected to be powered by Maruti Suzuki's 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine, currently offered in the Fronx. In the crossover, the three-cylinder motor produces 100bhp and 148Nm of torque. It is expected to be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox in the Brezza, with recent test mules featuring a si speed gear lever further fuelling speculation about the new powertrain.

Key rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV 3XO and Skoda Kylaq already offer turbocharged petrol engines, while the Brezza has so far relied solely on a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol unit. The smaller-capacity turbo engine could also provide a pricing advantage. Under India's GST structure, sub-four-metre petrol vehicles equipped with engines up to 1,200cc attract an 18 per cent GST rate, compared with the higher tax applicable to larger petrol engines. If Maruti Suzuki passes on the tax benefit, the turbo-petrol variants could be positioned aggressively despite offering stronger performance.

The existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is expected to remain on sale alongside the new turbo option. The front bumper is likely to receive a revised look, while the LED headlamps could get updated lighting signatures. At the rear, the SUV may adopt connected LED tail-lamps, bringing it in line with Maruti Suzuki's latest design language. Newly designed alloy wheels are also expected to be part of the package. Inside, the overall cabin layout is likely to remain familiar, but the Brezza could receive premium upholstery and revised trim finishes.
