Israel Shared Intel With US On Fresh Iranian Plot To Assassinate Trump: Report Published By, Last Updated: July 10, 2026, 06:53 IST For years, Iran has openly threatened retaliation against Trump over the 2020 US drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani. US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. (AFP file photo) Israel has shared intelligence with Washington indicating it had detected a “fresh Iranian plan" to assassinate US President Donald Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported on Friday, citing people familiar with the matter. The report comes amid renewed fighting between the US and Iran, weakening a three-week-old ceasefire and raising fears of a return to wider conflict. The escalation has also put pressure on efforts aimed at reaching an interim deal to help end the war in West Asia.
For years, Iran has openly threatened retaliation against Trump over the 2020 US drone strike that killed Qassem Soleimani, the powerful commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, during Trump’s first term. CNN also reported that Israel had shared a warning with the US about a specific alleged plot. One source told CNN the warning came this week, while another said US intelligence agencies had been tracking a steady flow of information in recent weeks about possible Iranian plans to target Trump. However, the Israeli warning was described as new and linked to a specific plot. Some US officials also suggested the Israeli intelligence could influence Trump’s decision-making as he weighs whether to expand American military action against Iran. The reports came after Trump himself spoke about threats against him during a visit to Ankara, Turkey, following the NATO summit on Wednesday.
He said Iran wanted to “take out" the US leader and claimed he was on every Iranian list targeting him. “They want to take out the US leader — me," Trump said. “I’m on whatever list. I saw this morning I’m on every single one of their lists." The warning also follows funeral events for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, where some mourners were seen chanting against Trump and a banner reading “We Will Kill Trump" was displayed. Khamenei was buried in Mashhad on early Friday, more than four months after he was killed in US-Israeli airstrikes on February 28 that marked the start of the war.
