A 22-year-old man died after allegedly suffering an electric shock during heavy monsoon rain in Ghaziabad's Indirapuram area on Wednesday, with preliminary findings indicating that waterlogged surroundings near an electrical transformer may have caused the fatal incident, police said. The victim was identified as Bablu, also known as Narendra Kachi, a resident of Village Bada Mahwa in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district. Police said he was a cleaning and maintenance worker at a nearby residential plot in the locality. Read Full Story According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place around 3 pm near Gyan Khand Park-1.
The victim had just exited the park through an iron gate when he suddenly collapsed in accumulated rainwater. A transformer is located close to the gate, and residents suspect that electricity leaked into the water, leading to electrocution. Videos of the incident, including CCTV footage and a clip recorded by bystanders, have surfaced on social media. The CCTV footage purportedly shows the man walking out of the park before collapsing moments later. As an electric current was believed to be flowing through the water, people nearby were unable to approach him immediately.
After the power supply was disconnected, local residents pulled the man out of the water and rushed him to LYF Hospital in Gyan Khand-1. However, doctors declared him brought dead. Police said they received information about the incident through the 112 emergency service after the victim was taken to the hospital. Officers from the Abhay Khand police outpost reached the hospital, where family members identified the deceased. According to the police, Bablu was found lying near the transformer in the Gyan Khand Park-1 area.
Based on information gathered from local residents, the death appears, prima facie, to have been caused by electrocution. Further legal proceedings have been initiated to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. The victim's family later reached the hospital and demanded prompt action from the police. Authorities are investigating whether any negligence in maintaining electrical infrastructure or ensuring public safety during the rains contributed to the fatality. Ends
