(AP Photo/Martin Meissner) Morocco star footballer Brahim Diaz was subject to one of the oddest press conferences in sports ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 Quarterfinal against France on Thursday (July 9). Midway through answering a question, Diaz was interrupted by two reporters fighting in front of him, full of loud shouting and accusations of one hitting the other, leaving the Real Madrid star bewildered.
The media managers could be heard pleading with the two reporters to maintain decorum to no avail. It reportedly took the intervention of security to stop them from arguing. For about a minute, Diaz was left confused, looking around at other journalists, and sharing awkward smiles. By the time calm was restored and the footballer became the focus of the event, he had forgotten the question. Watch it here ‘We are contenders too’: Brahim Diaz Morocco reached the last eight after a 3-0 win over Canada, having earlier edged the Netherlands on penalties. Diaz backed the Atlas Lions to challenge France in the quarter-final, insisting his side belongs among the tournament’s best. “We’re coming up against one of the favourites tomorrow, but we’re here because we can compete with France and we’re among the contenders too.
We want to win tomorrow," Diaz said. On coming up against Real Madrid teammates Kylian Mbappe and Aurelien Tchouameni, he said: “They’re extraordinary players and wonderful people. Tomorrow, however, we’ll be opponents, and we all want to win. That’s all that matters. I have faith in my team, and I know we’re going to put in a great performance," he added. With Ismael Saibari ruled out injured, Diaz is set to shoulder greater attacking responsibility. “I always take responsibility. I thrive on pressure. These are the matches every player wants to be involved in, and I’m ready. I feel confident ahead of tomorrow’s game, and I know we’ll give it our best shot," he said.
