A major inter-State marijuana smuggling operation was foiled on the outskirts of Khammam after the Telangana EAGLE Force and local police intercepted two vehicles carrying 113 kg of the contraband bound for Maharashtra. Four alleged transporters from Maharashtra were arrested during the operation conducted on the Khammam bypass road. Police estimated the value of the seized marijuana to be around ₹57 lakh. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team of the EAGLE Force’s Regional Narcotics Control Cell (RNCC) and Khammam II Town police intercepted a Maruti Ertiga and a Tata Aria and recovered the marijuana during a search.
The arrested accused were identified as Mohan Bhimrav Jadhav, 36, Gopinadh Digambar Sukle, 55, Ravi Jadhav, 28, and Santosh Tayyappa Jadhav, 40, all residents of Maharashtra. According to investigators, the marijuana was procured from Dupalawada village in Alluri Sitarama Raju district of Andhra Pradesh and was being transported to Maharashtra for distribution. Director of EAGLE, Sandeep Shandilya, said that Mohan Bhimrav Jadhav had previously been arrested in a marijuana trafficking case registered in Rajahmundry in 2019, indicating his alleged involvement in the narcotics trade.
The two vehicles used for transporting the contraband, along with mobile phones, were seized and handed over to the Khammam II Town police station. A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police are
searching for the alleged supplier, Basu alias Raju, a resident of Dupalawada village in Andhra Pradesh, who is absconding. Investigators are also examining the role of the registered owners of the vehicles and others who may have facilitated the transportation.
