A 55-year-old businessman was arrested by the Goshamahal Police in Hyderabad on charges of cheating, extortion, criminal intimidation and insulting the modesty of a woman, while another accused is absconding. The accused has been identified as Mukesh, a resident of Jinsi Chawrah near Mohandas Mutt in the city. He was produced before a court and remanded to judicial custody. The second accused, Vikas Singh, is yet to be apprehended.
According to the police, the case was registered following a complaint lodged on Tuesday (July 7, 2026). The complainant stated that he had borrowed ₹4.5 lakh from Mukesh on interest and had been regularly paying the monthly interest. Despite this, the accused demanded additional money. The complainant further alleged that on June 30, Mukesh and Vikas Singh forcibly entered his residence, abused him and his family, threatened and attempted to assault him, and later pressured him to withdraw his police complaint, leading to fear and mental distress for him.
During the investigation, the police seized a mobile phone, blank stamp papers of various denominations, and an Aadhaar card and photograph belonging to the complainant that were in the accused’s possession. The police said Mukesh is a suspect history-sheeter at the Mangalhat Police Station and has previously been booked in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and for other offences.
They also stated that his son is a rowdy-sheeter at the same police station. A case was registered and further investigation is underway.
