(PTI) The government has started security preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra 2026, with large-scale deployment of central armed forces set to begin in Jammu & Kashmir in the coming days, a top official aware of the development said.

Troops have begun mobilising and will soon reach Jammu & Kashmir as part of an extensive security grid being put in place for the annual pilgrimage, which draws hundreds of thousands of devotees to the Himalayan shrine each year. “This time, the Yatra will have additional layers of security in view of the prevailing threat environment," the officer said. According to official details reviewed by News18, the government has issued orders for deploying a massive over 670 Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) companies to the Jammu & Kashmir government until the completion of Amarnath Yatra 2026. The deployment, part of security arrangements under Operation SANJY-2026, will be carried out in a phased manner, the officer said.

In the first phase, 115 CRPF companies are to be inducted into the Union Territory by May 31, 2026. Of these, 95 CRPF companies are already present in J&K on a short-term basis, while 20 additional companies will be directly inducted to bolster ground presence ahead of the Yatra. The communication about the deployment has already been issued. Security officers have planned not to leave anything with the multi-layered deployment covering the twin routes to the shrine, the Baltal axis and the Pahalgam track, along with base camps and transit points across the Valley. Further details on the overall security grid are expected to be announced closer to the commencement of the Yatra.
