A wedding celebration in Andhra Pradesh's Tirupati turned into a scene of horror after two men were stabbed to death outside the Sri Padmavathi Kalyana Mandapam near Lakshmipuram Circle on Wednesday night, allegedly following a dispute linked to a family matter. The victims were identified as Munirathnam, 50, and Manikantha, 42. They were attacked with knives outside the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams-run Padmavathi Kalyana Mandapam while a wedding ceremony was under way. Munirathnam died on the spot, while Manikantha, who suffered critical injuries, died while being taken to the government-run RUIA Hospital.
Read Full Story The attack caused panic among guests at the wedding and left local residents shocked. Police said the road outside the venue was stained with blood after the assault. According to police, the violence is suspected to have followed a dispute involving a marriage. Police said Sampoornamma, whose daughter had married a man named Sunil and had reportedly been living separately from him for the past few months, came to know that Sunil would be attending a wedding at the venue. Police said she informed Munirathnam, who had married her daughter, and Manikantha.
The two then confronted Sunil at the wedding hall over allegedly leaving his wife. An argument followed, and Sunil's relatives also joined in, police said. As the confrontation escalated, Sunil and his relatives allegedly stabbed Munirathnam and Manikantha with knives and fled the spot. Earlier, preliminary information had suggested that a woman accompanied by four men might have been involved in the attack. However, eyewitnesses told police that three men arrived on a motorcycle, attacked the two victims with knives and escaped. A video recorded by a bystander has since gone viral.
East DSP Bhaktavatsalam, along with CI Srinivasulu and West CI Ramakrishna, reached the spot and began an investigation. Police examined CCTV footage from the area and identified the accused, who are believed to be from Jangalapalli in Yerpedu mandal. Police said the accused were intercepted and taken into custody before they could leave Tirupati. They are being questioned as the investigation into the circumstances leading to the double murder continues. Ends
