(IMAGE: SOURCED) Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Thursday said it is essential to ensure the safe and uninterrupted movement of trade through key international waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea.
Addressing the first International Security Forum and the 14th Meeting of High Representatives for Security Matters in Moscow, Doval called for “special attention" to the situation in West Asia. He also said there cannot be double standards in the fight against terrorism. The meeting, hosted by Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu, focused on “Challenges and Threats to International Security in the Context of the Emergence of the Multipolar World". Further addressing the issue of terrorism, Doval said “responsible" nations must “evaluate their choices".
“Responsible nations have to evaluate their choices and decide whether they support sponsors of terrorism or counter them with decisive action," he said. Doval also highlighted the urgent need for reforms in global structures and institutions set up after the Second World War, saying they must become more effective in addressing contemporary international security threats and provide greater representation to the Global South. Doval and Shoigu are also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the forum on Thursday and Friday.
