(Video screengrabs/CNN-News18) A 12-year-old Class 6 student died under mysterious circumstances at a private residential school in Bengaluru on Wednesday, triggering protests by his family and leading police to register a murder case against the school’s physical training (PT) teacher. The boy’s parents have alleged that he was assaulted before collapsing during a morning exercise session, while investigators are awaiting the post-mortem report to establish the exact cause of death. The deceased, identified as Guru Kiran, was a Class 6 student at Sterling English Residential School in Kadayarappanahalli near Yelahanka in north Bengaluru. According to the family, they received a phone call from school authorities on Wednesday morning informing them that their son had suddenly fallen ill and had been taken to a hospital. However, by the time they reached the medical facility, the 12-year-old had already died.
Police said that based on a complaint lodged by the boy’s parents, a murder case has been registered against the PT teacher. The accused has been taken into custody for questioning while further investigation is underway. According to the police, Guru Kiran woke up at around 5.15 am and joined the school’s routine morning exercise session at approximately 5.30 am. Investigators said the student completed two rounds of running before suddenly collapsing on the playground. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared him dead. However, the boy’s parents disputed the sequence of events presented by the school, alleging that the child was assaulted before he collapsed. Police said the family claimed the PT teacher had beaten Guru Kiran twice shortly before the incident. A classmate also alleged that the student was assaulted after he went to the toilet before the exercise session. The same student reportedly told investigators that the PT teacher frequently beat children with sticks and rods over minor issues. The boy’s body was sent for a post-mortem examination, and police said they are awaiting the autopsy report to determine the precise cause of death. Meanwhile, the grieving family has raised questions over the school’s version of events. According to the family, Guru Kiran was in good health and had spoken to his parents over the phone the previous night without mentioning any illness or discomfort.
