(Source: PTI) The death toll in the collapse of an under-construction four-storey building in Delhi’s Rohini has risen to three, while one person sustained injuries, officials said on Thursday after rescue operations concluded. According to the Delhi Fire Service (DFS), three people were pulled out from the debris by its rescue teams. Of them, two were declared dead, while one person was rescued with injuries. Officials said locals had pulled one person out of the rubble before the DFS reached the site. The victim, identified as Ram Kishore (42), was taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead, taking the total death toll to three. The rescue operation has since been completed, although a DFS team remains deployed at the site as a precautionary measure. Under-Construction Building Collapses In Rohini The four-storey building under construction collapsed around 4:20 pm on Wednesday at property numbers G-4/152 and G-4/153 near an MCD school in Rohini’s Sector 16 as heavy rain lashed several parts of the national capital.
However, the authorities have not yet confirmed whether the rainfall triggered the building collapse. Residents rushed to the site after hearing a loud crash and cries for help from beneath the debris. Before specialised rescue teams reached the location, locals began removing bricks, concrete slabs and twisted iron rods with their bare hands in an attempt to rescue those trapped. As more rescue personnel arrived, police cordoned off the area to ensure the operation continued without obstruction. Police had earlier said several people, including the property owner’s husband and labourers, were feared trapped beneath the debris. The building is jointly owned by Manju, the wife of Ram Dua, and Ritika, the wife of Vinod, according to the police. Extensive Rescue Operation Launched Following the collapse, police secured the area, cleared access routes for emergency vehicles and evacuated nearby buildings to facilitate rescue operations. Multiple agencies, including the Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services, Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), revenue department and ambulance services, carried out an extensive rescue operation through the night.
