Iran State Media Says Tehran Will Strike US Bases Across Gulf After Latest Attacks Published By, Last Updated: July 09, 2026, 03:06 IST The warnings came after the US carried out new strikes on Iranian targets, following US President Donald Trump's threat to hit Tehran 'hard'. (AFP photo) Iranian state-linked media on Wednesday warned that Tehran could launch strikes on US military bases across the Gulf region following the latest American attacks on Iran. Nour News, an outlet linked to Iran’s Supreme Security Council, cited an unnamed military source warning of an imminent “massive attack" on US bases in the region. However, no launch has been confirmed so far. A military source quoted by Iranian state media said Iran would target every US base that launched or supported attacks on southern Iran, using “heavy missiles and UAVs".
The source claimed the response would begin “within minutes". A separate military source told Tehran Times that Iran’s response to what it called US “aggression" would leave Washington with “deep regret". US launches fresh strikes on Iran The warnings came after the US carried out new strikes on Iranian targets on Wednesday, following President Donald Trump’s threat to respond to Iranian attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz. US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the strikes were aimed at reducing Iran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the strategic waterway, through which a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass. “The United States is holding Iran accountable for recent unjustified aggression against commercial shipping," CENTCOM said in a statement on X. Iran’s Mehr news agency reported explosions in several locations, including the port cities of Bandar Abbas, Konarak and Chabahar. Reports also said power cuts were reported in parts of Chabahar following the strikes.
Trump Vows To ‘Hit Hard’ The latest escalation follows a breakdown in efforts to maintain a ceasefire, with Trump earlier saying the agreement with Iran was over. Mediators including Pakistan and Qatar, along with the United Nations, called for restraint and a return to dialogue. Trump said at a NATO summit in Ankara that the US would respond strongly, saying, “We’re gonna hit ’em hard tonight." However, he later said he expected the flare-up to end quickly. The Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint in the Middle East conflict, which began in late February with US-Israeli strikes that killed Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader who is to be buried in his hometown of Mashhad on Thursday. Tehran insists on controlling the strait, saying it will charge fees for passage and threatening to hit vessels that deviate from its authorised route. Its military struck at least three ships in recent days, prompting extensive US strikes against Iranian targets on Tuesday, followed by retaliatory attacks from Iran on Gulf countries.
